Taking a Break

Taking a Break

taking a breakI’ve written a lot about energy healing and somatic therapy over the years. These are very valuable for supporting quality of life and the embodiment of spiritual development.

Texts like the Yoga Sutra mention the importance of regular practice. Yet unlike transcending, it’s valuable to take a break from healing work periodically.

Certainly, we can go through periods where a lot of things are coming up to be processed. But nature always moves in cycles.

If we get into always looking for more to process, we can develop subtle habits of resistance or beliefs in fixing oneself. We can get a little obsessed, always the next thing to clear. Plus, ongoing change can become unsettling or feel unsafe.

> We’re not broken or insufficient. Healing work is to improve clarity, not fix.

> Life is about having experiences, not perfection.

> Life is beautifully organized, but locally it can seem messy.

Natural processes all move in cycles. An inward stroke, an outward stroke. A quiet time, an active time. A processing time, a resting time.

Not that we should abandon anything. Only that sometimes, taking a break from healing can be healing too. We need time for integration, perspective, and clarity too.

As a former fanatic golfer, I remember asking a pro about some difficulties I was having with my golf swing.
His advice was trenchant: “Take two weeks off and then quit.”
