Remembering

rememberingWe all enjoy the benefits of “personal” memory. We remember things by their emotional importance. Everything else is forgotten. For example, we forget what we had for breakfast yesterday, but remember our first kiss. Memory is stored energetically, in “the field.” Our brain is wired to “tune in” to the field. However, the connections are constantly being updated, based on priority. If we access some memories less, the brain stops maintaining that array, and those memories fade.

There are also distinct modes of memory. For example, our early childhood impressions are pre-cognitive and so we forget these when we become more mind-oriented. We don’t operate in that mode anymore. Cognitions are a cosmic mode – we’ll come back to them.

What we remember is what we have easy access to because of what we’ve prioritized and a related mode of experience.

As our purpose here is to have experiences from our unique perspective, and to contribute that to the whole, our experiences are pretty fundamental to our function.

As such, all our experiences are recorded. Even the experiences of bugs and plants are recorded.

These recordings are called the akashic records. They’re impressions in space, hence akasha. We can learn to access these records, although there’s a lot of woo-woo around this topic.

Deeper still are cosmic impressions in consciousness itself. There are degrees of this too.

For one, the great sages and seers of history leave impressions in the cosmic because of the depth and clarity of their experience. Thus, even after their souls have merged back into the Divine, their impressions live on and can be interacted with.

However, they need to be enlivened to be remembered. This is the value of the stories of sages. When we know who they are, when our perception opens to the cosmic, we can “remember” them. (When the student is ready, the guru appears.) They then can become a resource for us. Time isn’t relevant in consciousness itself.

This is partly the point of things like the guru puja, used in technique instruction. This brings the blessings and memory of some of the world’s greatest sages.

Some of us will also have prior life connections with specific sages. Such connections can happen over time or near instantly, when we recognize their greatness and they make a big memory impression. Or they can choose to connect with us and support our journey through lifetimes, often outside of our awareness.

Even deeper, there are impressions called Veda or knowledge. These idea-forms structure the unfolding of creation.

There are levels of access to this mode that I’ve discussed prior. Not everyone has the physiology to access this level.

But as consciousness is prior to time, there are some curious features of this memory. I’ve mentioned that these records guide the growth and evolution of creation. The cognitions include who had or will have their experience. And when they’ll have the experience. And yet, all of them also pre-exist on their level. They need to be experienced to be expressed in creation, enabling the next stage to unfold. Simultaneously, it already happened and never happened, both. Such is the nature of existing prior to time.

Memory comes in all shapes and sizes.
