Yoga: The Means to Enlightenment

Yoga, The Means to Enlightenment.
The Yoga Sutra of Maharishi Patanjali, A New Translation and Commentary.

Coming in 2026!

When we hear the word “yoga,” many Westerners think of stretching exercises. However, this is not what actual yoga is. The word Yoga means union. The Yoga Sutra tells us:
Yoga is the complete settling of the activity of the mind.
Then the observer rests in the true nature of the Self. v1:2-3

When we quiet the mind, our deeper nature can shine through. That deeper nature has been called universal consciousness, pure being, the Self, and many other names. It is the source of all of our experiences. As the sutras tell us, with regular experience of that deeper nature, it becomes the platform for unfolding enlightenment.

In this book, I’ll explore the background of Yoga, one of the six systems of Indian philosophy (upanga or darshana). I’ll explore why Yoga is the foundation for unfolding wisdom of life. I’ll translate and explain each sutra, address common misunderstandings, particularly why effort and control fail, and explore the potential described.

Nore that the Yoga Sutra are not a how-to. Spiritual practices are experiential, guided by a qualified teacher. The sutras also reflect being compiled in a higher age when we were capable of greater things.

This book becomes the first in a series of books, the foundation for unfolding Our Natural Potential (a book on the 7 stages of enlightenment) and Our Natural Reality (a book on how the world arises).
