Fractals of Consciousness

Fractals of Consciousness

fractalsGod is ananda (bliss). From bliss all beings are born, in bliss all beings are sustained, and into bliss all beings will merge at the time of complete dissolution of the universe.
– Taittiriya Upanishad

Bliss is the lively surface of self-aware consciousness. The bliss body is where we cross the threshold from expression into the open space of consciousness, often noticed as a wave of happiness when transcending in and out during meditation. It can also be noticed in moments of awe and devotion when we open up.

We can say the same thing about consciousness: from consciousness all beings are born, in consciousness we’re all sustained, and into consciousness we all return.

Consciousness develops into expression in layers, which means it also nests. Each of us seems to have a personal bliss body and personal awareness, even though it’s all universal.

Another way we can look at this is that consciousness has fractals. I’ve mentioned before how, in that space of consciousness prior to expression, consciousness is aware of itself both globally, and at every point within itself. Those points are points of observation. Some express forward and become jivas (experiencers, beings).

Further, within ourselves, we have selves related to different phases of our history. For example, our toddler self, child self, teen self, young adult self, etc. If those selves are traumatized, they’re often not conscious. Rather, we orphan those “parts” and hide them away. Other parts can act as protectors, keeping the orphans hidden. When they’re healed, we’re aware of and can connect with those parts. They’re a part of our experience and self-journey.

Similarly, when the trauma of prior lives is healed, those lives/ parts can become conscious too.

Memory and impressions sustain these fractals of self. They don’t have their own identity or awareness per se but behave as historic patterns or learning. They are perspectives we can take, even subconsciously. We can say they’re part of why we are how we are, but are not our true nature, under all this history.

We are the experiencer who experiences and remembers those fractal parts of ourselves. And that experiencer is a fractal of universal consciousness. We are one and we are many, together.
