Some years ago, Jane Goodall wrote a book on The 10 Trusts, the responsibilities we have for taking care of animals and nature.
They are:
1) Rejoice that we are part of the animal kingdom
2) Respect all life
3) Open our minds, in humility, to animals and learn from them
4) Teach our children to love and respect animals
5) Be wise stewards of life on Earth
6) Value and help preserve the sounds of nature
7) Refrain from harming life in order to learn from it
8) Have the courage of our convictions
9) Praise and help those who work for animals and the natural world
10) Act knowing we are not alone and live with hope
Coda: After all is said and done, silence is betrayal
As in any relationship, there are power dynamics we want to be conscious of. When we have power over others, it is key for us not to abuse that but to be caring and respectful. Otherwise, we can destroy what supports us.
The book is available wherever books are sold. There’s a preview on Archive.org.

I have huge respect for Jane Goodall, what she achieved and advocated was nothing short of remarkable. What a clear voice expressing the importance of behaving in accord with natural law.
No less poignant today, as humanity’s consumption levels are unsustainable, and in order for us to live within our means we have to reduce our over usage.
At least it looks like more and more people are becoming aware of it. I guess further spiritual realisation will help, as we’ll be less inclined to buy stuff to compensate for whatever stresses induce us to consume without thinking. And simply appreciate the natural world around us instead. 🙂 Few things more balm to the heart than sitting by a brook and listening to the water running and the birds singing.
Creation is stunning in its variety and exuberance.
Agreed, Eira. Being aligned with nature helps keep us healthy and balanced.
In my case, it’s watching the ever-changing ocean, the waves, and the sky.
