When sensations and emotions arise, the natural response is to experience them, process the experience, and then return to centre. We see examples of this throughout the natural world.
However, we humans often learn to avoid some kinds of experience. Perhaps we don’t like the way our mother made emotional dramas about everything, so we reject that in ourselves and suppress it. (The pattern is often inherited and was also modelled when we were young.) Or people didn’t like a quality we had as a kid and we learned to suppress that.
It can be a bit of a process to:
a) learn to regulate ourselves (i.e.: come to inner calm)
b) notice how we feel to make it conscious
c) allow what’s arising to be experienced so it can be processed.
d) come back to calm
Our energy dynamics can be surprisingly complex. Most of us have both unresolved childhood trauma and those energetic imprints inherited and modelled energetically by adults around us when we were young.
There are various energetic cycles in the natural world that influence us, like the moons’ phases. These energetic cycles shift what is likely to arise in the flavours of our experience. Certain kinds of struggles are more common in certain times. Like there’s a lot of fear moving through the collective these days. This makes it a great opportunity for making that conscious in ourselves so we can heal it.
We could say there are seasons of healing.
However, it’s not useful to see all contractions as something to get rid of. For example, it’s natural to contract from a danger. And more deeply, we’ve all got energetic patterns that are part of being a human. For example, we may have been given the gift of a strong intellect. But that can come with more doubt. Or we may be more sensitive, which can be a powerful gift but a difficult challenge until we learn to work it.
Curiously, we often don’t recognize our gifts as they’re normal for us. Or we see them as problems as we only know their shadow side, like the doubt or sensitivity.
Most people have no clue who they really are or what they’re made for. They move through life in a fog, running on expectations and self-imposed resistance. But there are better options. 🙂
