One model of evolutionary development is “Triune Brain” theory. This suggests that our brains reflect our evolutionary development. It has three primary levels of development:
1) the innermost Lizard or instinctive brain and our stress response.
2) the Mammalian or limbic brain and our emotions.
3) the Neocortex over the top, our higher brain, including executive function.
These align with our first 3 chakras.
Recently, I saw another model that suggested that our next stage of evolution is emotional. That emotional awareness would override mental awareness. We’d learn to identify how we feel and process emotions better, maturing further this way. Also that we’d become more collective.
That made little sense to me, even though it’s a process that is certainly rising in the collective at the moment.
And then I thought of the chakras.
1) The Root chakra is all about our physical sense of being, survival, and instinct.
2) The Sacral chakra is about emotions, flow, and energy.
3) The Solar Plexus chakra drives the mind and leans towards control and protection of the self. Our culture is mentally oriented.
But what’s next?
4) The Heart chakra. While I wouldn’t classify this as an emotional center, it is about feelings, but in more collective, universal ways. Love, compassion, and fine feelings. It’s also associated with intuition and the subtle geometry behind form (aka sacred geometry).
This is not the chakra they oriented this stage to, but it is some the direction we’re moving towards.
