Bab’Aziz

In the ways of curious coincidences, I ran into this film release, the story of a Sufi Dervish. Bab’Aziz – The Prince Who Contemplated His Soul “A visual poem of incomparable beauty, this masterpiece from director Nacer Khemir (Wanderers of the Desert) begins with the story of a blind dervish named Bab’Aziz and his spirited granddaughter, Ishtar. Together they wander the desert in search of a great reunion of dervishes that takes place just once every thirty years. With faith as their only guide, the two journey for days through the expansive, barren landscape. To keep Ishtar entertained, Bab’Aziz relays … Continue Reading…

A new lay spirituality

A friend forwarded this to me from the Conversations with God folks. Dalai Lama on a New Spirituality: “I believe deeply that we must find, all of us together, a new spirituality. This new concept ought to be elaborated alongside the religions in such a way that all people of good will could adhere to it. We need a new concept, a lay spirituality. We ought to promote this concept with the help of scientists. It could lead us to set up what we are all looking for — a secular morality.” Dalai Lama Spiritual Leader of Tibetan Buddhism Quoted … Continue Reading…

The hero-path

“We have not even to risk the adventure alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us; the labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path. And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a God; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence; where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world.” — Joseph Campbell

That is another way you can know it. Q: What about the other pieces? A: There is only one true peace. All others are a … Continue Reading…

What is real?

This was part of a discussion on what is real. The way I see goes like this. We are consciousness. Pure, unbounded, silent, transparent consciousness. The only reason this is hard to grasp is that we try to experience it in our habitual ways – through the mind & senses. But how can something silent and transparent be perceived?  It cannot. We can only remember it. We are That. Consciousness, being everywhere, experiences Itself. The process of that experience creates mind. A field created by the relationship of Self with Itself. Note that the mind is not the subject nor … Continue Reading…

Fine-tuned universe

Having a really interesting discussion with a friend of mine about sciences supposition that energy somehow produces order, based on things like fractals that reveal order within disorder. “In fact, if the time frame is long enough, anything that is even possible becomes inevitable. ” This lead to the idea of the “Fine-tuned universe”… “The term fine-tuned universe refers to the idea that conditions that allow life in the universe can only occur with the tightly restricted values of the universal physical constants, and that small changes in these constants would correspond to a very different universe, not likely conducive … Continue Reading…
