Thank you. I’ve always thought about this season as a celebration of the Return of the Light. Being the child of both Jew and Gentile, and married to a Jew, we have always celebrated both Holidays, Christmas and Channukah and also Divali. As I recite the blessing and light the candles each night I feel in contact with all the Winter Solstice traditions of bringing the Light, that come down to us from time immemorial. I understand why these traditions persist in every culture in all ages. In those moments I feel the Light of Light, Pure Consciousness flowing through me. Blessings of the season to everyone. No matter how you celebrate the Return of the Light

    1. Right, Gina. The Sun reaches its lowest point in the sky on the solstice, the shortest day of the year. It seems to stay low for 3 days. Then on the 25th, it seems to begin to rise higher in the sky again. The light begins its slow return and the days get longer. These observations long predate modern faiths.

Winter is also the fallow time, when nature turns within and rests.
