Love & Power

Love & Power

I recently ran into several quotes on love and power I thought worth sharing.

“Power is the drive of everything living to realize itself in increasing intensity and extensity, and love is the drive to unify the separated.”
— Protestant theologian Paul Tillich (paraphrased)

“What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.”
— Martin Luther King

Here’s a couple more.

“We must discover the power of love, the power, the redemptive power of love.”
— Martin Luther King

“World Peace can be achieved when the Power Of Love replaces the Love Of Power.”
— Sri Chinmoy

At essence, love is the flow of pure divinity, surrendering to itself. Power is what moves the flow and gives love its oomph. In a curious way, love is raw power. But this power is far beyond the power of energy or charisma. It is the power that gives rise to creation, hundreds of universes, and countless forms of life. It is the power that creates, animates, and destroys everything. It is your very breath.

Mostly though, we experience love channeled through an identified ego. It becomes about wants and needs, control and separation. We become devoted to pleasure, money, control, and attention. And that just leads to suffering.

Real love is so much more than gain and loss. It is eternally calling us home, back to peace, wisdom, and happiness.

Sweet 🙂 And this is the divinity of ParaBrahman?

    1. Hi Gayanee
Well – same divinity, but the knowing of divinity in ParaBrahman is greater than this.

Keep in mind, ParaBrahman is the name for a stage of development and perspective of a human. We can frame it as a series of steps in knowledge of the divine.

Beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the MLK, “love without power is sentimental and anemic.” Makes me think of Maharishi’s, “Enlightenment belongs to the strong.”

Ganesh once spoke to me on the full moon in May
    The Great Power of Love
    “Love is your strongest ally
    It is your greatest strength.
Love freely, love well, and all will come out perfectly.
It is Love that brings you to Enlightenment.
That is what Enlightenment is all about for you
    Love and Bliss.
Love is like gold and diamonds, pure untarnishable
Stronger than any substance in the Cosmos
Love will see you through every test, every temptation.
Just remember Love, and you will never fail.
    You will always triumph.
    Love conquers all
    And so you shall.”
