This evening, I saw a talk by the philosopher Peter Russell called The Primacy of Consciousness. He starts us out with the typical current paradigm where consciousness is seen as present only in humans and is an effect of complexity. That inanimate matter somehow produced self-awareness. And why this does not explain human experience.
He goes on to talk about consciousness as a meta-paradigm, an underlying or primary presence that is both within everything and contains everything. He also discusses how the world we perceive exists only in the mind.
It’s a little over an hour, from 2004.
The Primacy of Consciousness
His much older talk on The Global Brain is also highly insightful, predicting the growing global network and a replacement for the information age. And an interesting perspective on current events.
