The Strange Reality of Being Human

Most people think of themselves as a single being, distinct from others. This is my body, these are my private thoughts, and this is how I feel. However, this is just a set of ideas, a story we tell ourselves. And I’m not taking a spiritual approach here but one leaning more on science. Your body is an assemblage of trillions of cells, each with their own life and life cycle. They come and go at various rates but overall, our body almost completely replaces itself within 7 years. (The cosmic body is similar, only that is a body composed … Continue Reading…

Changes With Enlightenment

When we awaken, one of things many are surprised by is how ordinary and normal it is. How did I not get this simplicity sooner? It often changes little about our outer life as the primary shift is deep within – who we recognize ourselves as being. For some, there can also be outer changes that come before or after the shift due to karma completing or shifts in life cycles. But for many, life just continues as before. The same goodness and struggles but now from a new perspective. Here, for example, I was surprised how normal and ordinary … Continue Reading…

Where are the Senses?

In our culture, we’re encouraged to think of the senses as part of our body. We can point to the places in our body where we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. However, if our senses are parts of the body, how do we have full sensory experiences during dreams, when our body is asleep? This is because our senses are not in the body, they’re in the mind. When the mind is awake, so are the senses, be we in waking state or dreaming. When the mind sleeps, as in deep sleep, so do the senses. The body includes vehicles for … Continue Reading…

Structuring Life

Life can be said to be a 3-parter. There is the form, the life that runs it and the soul that inhabits it. You may recognize the observer, process of observation and object dynamic once again. A general object like a rock has a form that arises through the interplay of the 3 gunas in the universe, in consciousness. Physics studies this. Forms that hold life though are a more direct expression of consciousness, originating from an idea in the cosmic. For example, a human body has the same rules as a rock but also is under the purview of … Continue Reading…

Melting the Body

I spoke recently about liberating the person. This is a stage well after we have liberated the soul and woken up to our universal nature. As we grow into our universal nature, there is an unfolding embodiment, a descent of the divine into form. How effective that is depends on how able we are to support it. What that means varies some by person. We gradually come to see the body as cosmic. As that becomes progressively embodied and the physiology gradually adapts to sustaining that presence, we find a refinement even of the surface physical form. The inner purity … Continue Reading…
