Buddha at the Gas Pump

Last fall, a public access TV show began in the US Midwest, out in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa. It’s an interview show with a diverse range of people who have had a spiritual awakening. While they sort out the technical issues and process, it’s taken some time to get the interviews on-line. But they’ve begun to show up, first as podcasts, then as video.

The studio is basic and they’re learning as they go, so the production quality is slowly improving. But some of what comes out in the interviews is excellent. Due to the hosts contacts, many of the early interviews are with TM meditators but the range is slowly expanding into other paths as well. A surprising number are with awake couples.

“People everywhere are undergoing a shift to an Awakened state of consciousness which is transforming their understanding of themselves and the world. For some, this shift has been abrupt and dramatic. For others, it has been so gradual that they may not have realized it has occurred. Such shifts, or “awakenings,” are not new: Christ spoke of the “Kingdom of Heaven within,” Buddhists speak of Nirvana, Zen masters of Satori, Hindus of Moksha, but these traditions generally regard these states as rare and difficult to attain.

Many people are therefore skeptical of claims of higher states of consciousness. They find it hard to believe that apparently ordinary friends and neighbors might be experiencing something extraordinary. Maybe they expect Enlightenment to look as remarkable on the outside as it is reputed to be on the inside.

This show will attempt to dispel skepticism and misconceptions… week after week, allowing otherwise ordinary people to relate their experience of spiritual awakening. The terminology is tricky, because there are no universally agreed upon definitions to describe this experience. Also, enlightenment is not something that an individual person “gets”. It’s not even something that the mind can grasp. It’s an awakening to that which contains the mind and all other things. So it’s not surprising that language is inadequate to convey it.”

The Youtube channel has the videos done so far. The first was done as a radio show, so the video was done secondarily with just an on-camera mic.

“Perhaps those listening to these interviews will become convinced, as I am, that genuine and permanent spiritual awakenings are not just a pipe dream, but are real and are becoming relatively commonplace.”

It’s worth noting the host lives in a community where there is a higher concentration of the awake than is typical. But that simply gives him a perspective of what is developing on the larger scale. They’re testing technology to be able to interview remotely, much as you see in TV news shows. Evidently, he has enough contacts to keep this going for some time.

If you still find this hard to accept, you might check out a British version:
Conscious.TV I’ve watched some of those.

Or follow some of the other “Similar Shows” links on BatGap.

Keep in mind that only a small number who awaken find it appropriate or feel prepared to talk about it like this. And a much smaller number begin to teach it. The explosion in teachers marks a much greater explosion in waking.
